Archeology of Self

Archeology of Self
is an installation created as my piece for the BA Fine Arts (extension) degree show. The projects explores the idea of myself and my connection to my family as a travel away from them.

I extracted my own skin and sew the pieces together, and used Polaroid Lifting technique to transfer the images of myself and my family onto the skin, creating a tapestry of identity and memory. The presentation of this piece is reminiscent of museum exhibits, emphasising the idea of narrating personal history by placing them on top of light boxes, protected under glass cover, the skin become half translucent. By purposely positioning a lower spot,a are subtly encouraged, almost compelled, to stoop down, drawing them physically and emotionally closer to the piece, urging a contemplation of the intricate details embedded within.

‍T embodies my longing for home and my quest for understanding my origins. This project stands as a testament to the enduring connection with one's roots and the continual search for self amidst the ever-changing landscapes of life and distance. This installation, while deeply personal, resonates universally, encapsulating the shared human experience of searching for one's identity in the vast tapestry of family and time.
